Trust me, this is one adventure you won't want to miss!

Address: Kamimiyada Minamishitauramachi, Miura, Kanagawa 238-0101

When to see Early-Blooming Sakura:

Kawazu-zakura is a variety of cherry blossom (sakura) native to Japan. It is known for its early blooming period, typically starting in early February and lasting until early March, which is earlier than most other cherry blossom varieties. Kawazu-zakura trees produce vibrant pink flowers that cover the branches in dense clusters, creating a stunning display of color. These cherry blossoms are often larger and more fragrant than other varieties, making them a popular attraction for visitors during the early spring months in Japan.

This year I visited on February 20, 2024.

Getting There:

First things first, let's talk logistics. Getting to MiuraKaigan Station is a breeze. From Tokyo Station, hop on the Yamamoto Line Local towards Shibuya/ Shinjuku. Transfer at Shinagawa Station. Get on The Keikyu Main Line Limited Express bound for Misakiguchi Station, and from there, it's just a short stroll to the festival grounds. The station itself is nestled amidst stunning coastal scenery, making the journey as picturesque as the destination.

If you plan to drive, there is parking, but it will be limited.

What to Do:

Once you've arrived, prepare to be dazzled by a sea of delicate pink petals. The festival boasts a myriad of activities to keep you entertained, from traditional tea ceremonies under the blossoms to vibrant musical performances that celebrate the arrival of spring. Be sure to take a leisurely stroll along the festival grounds, where you'll encounter mesmerizing displays of cherry blossoms in full bloom. They have maps all around the station, and the local area, with the walking route to follow. The route is very intuitive - just follow the crowds!

What to Eat:

Now, let's talk about the food because no festival experience is complete without indulging in some local delicacies. Treat your taste buds to an array of mouthwatering treats, from freshly grilled seafood to savory street snacks. And don't forget to sip on some refreshing sakura-flavored beverages – the perfect way to toast to the season!

Accessibility for Wheelchairs and Strollers:

Now, let's talk about accessibility because everyone deserves a chance to partake in the sakura festivities. MiuraKaigan Station is equipped with ramps and elevators to facilitate easy access for individuals with wheelchairs or strollers. The festival grounds are also designed to be wheelchair-friendly, ensuring that everyone can fully enjoy the beauty of the cherry blossoms. There are a few areas you may need to take a detour to a park entrance due to stairs.
